Global Asbestos Awareness Week

The week of 1st-7th April is Global Asbestos Awareness Week (GAAW). GAAW runs on the same week every year with the aim of raising awareness of the dangers asbestos exposure in order to encourage employers to assess potential dangers within their own work activities and premises.

There are 6 main types of asbestos with the 3 most common being Chrysotile (white)Amosite (brown) and Crocidolite (blue). Chrysotile is the form most often found to be present in buildings or products. Asbestos was used in a large variety of construction materials including cement, roofing and ceiling tiles. In the UK asbestos was fully banned in late November 1999. Any building constructed prior to the year 2000 can not be guaranteed to be free from asbestos.

The Control of Asbestos Regulations require all duty holders to identify the presence of asbestos in their premises or have an asbestos survey conducted. Additionally, an asbestos register must be maintained, the risks assessed, and a management plan put in place to prevent or minimise asbestos exposure.

All employees that may encounter asbestos during the course of their work activities must be trained in Asbestos Awareness. This is a course that can be undertaken online at a cost of £25 plus VAT per person.

All training booked with us will be discounted by 10%.
